Measurement

This week in Room 9 Maths we are learning about measurement. We are learning to explore the length of a metre and ways that we can estimate a metre. We have been pretending to be pirates. We have had to measure where the buried treasure was and come up with a way of making sure it would be the same even if the treasure map was used in 100 years time. Yesterday we measured out the length of our pirate ship on the floor of the classroom and today we drew it today using cm rather than m. Here are some of our ships. We had to make sure the ship, the masts and gang plank were the correct length.

Time

For the first few weeks of term 2, we are learning about time. We have been learning about the days of the week and months of the year, and how to use a calendar. We have also been learning how to tell the time to the hour and half hour. We know that if the big hand is pointing to the 12 it is o'clock and the little hand will tell us what the hour is. Our families can help us by getting us to practice telling the time at home with an analogue clock. Miss Dippie has put some cool time game links into the maths game links. Have a look at them. There are also a whole lot of new time tasks set for you in study ladder.
